Subject: An Invitation
Dear Colleague,
As part of the 200th Anniversary of Church Schools Celebration, a
special day conference is being organised in London on Thursday October
20th. The Conference is being called the 'Watson Symposium', in memory
of the founder of our movement, and will be a chance to engage with a
number of leading thinkers and writers in the of Church Schools field.
The organisers have elicited widespread academic support for the Watson
Symposium and keynote speakers are Professor Andrew Wright and
Professor Julian Stern. They have commissioned 16 writers whose papers
will be presented. It will therefore be possible to choose from a number
of discussion subjects in addition to the plenary programme.
It is hoped that a serious book and/or a church schools' journal may be
one of the abiding fruits of this event.
We have been asked to suggest 20 names of people in our diocese to
receive a direct personal invitation to this Symposium.
The organisers wish to make this event available to reflective
practitioners who might be current Headteachers who will value the
encouragement, Chairs of Governors, Clergy who are making connections
with schools, lay people who are involved, DBE members and other
colleagues.
Please would you reply to this e-mail ASAP if you would like to among
our 20 invitees; it will be first come first served!
If you cannot respond immediately, contact us when you can anyway - if
more places are released later we can forward your names then.
I am a member of the event's steering group, and commend it to you as a
significant initiative in the life of our church school family and
movement.
Best wishes,
Tim
