We hope you enjoy our new style Bulletin too. This promises to be a very eventful term for us in the Diocese with a number of special events with a Schools and Young People’s focus to look forward to. Introducing Jane As we have been giving thanks for the past in celebrating our 900th birthday, we express too our hope for the future. Indeed we always set out in hope at the beginning of a new school year – for ourselves, our pupils and our communities. It’s good to remember just how central hope is to the Christian life. Hope is more than wishful thinking or naïve optimism that things will get better. The hopes we have for our world, our young people and ourselves empower and energise us and are a defence from cynicism, fear and despair. Hope is at the heart of the educational enterprise and is grounded in the very character of God and is coupled with faith and love as one of the three most enduring gifts of the Spirit ( 1 Corinthians 13:13). Of course, daring to hope can be hard work too and sustaining it in ourselves and others is one of the challenges of leading a school or any community. We wish you a hope-filled school year! Forthcoming highlights this term are: Special occasions in Ely Cathedral as we conclude our Ely 900 celebrations: Children’s Festival on Saturday 19th September 2-4pm. See page 4 or go to www.ely.anglican.org/900 for more details Schools Days in October Archbishop of York visit on November 21st (and a ‘Question Time’ for Y11-13 students the day before); Heavenly Lord, you long for the world's salvation: stir us from apathy, restrain us from excess and revive in us new hope that all creation will one day be healed in Jesus Christ our Lord. Jane Sansom has spent the summer settling into her role as our new Schools Administrator. Jane was born in London, grew up in Norfolk, and has since lived, studied and worked in London and Cambridge. After completing her studies as a Home Economist, with a particular leaning towards food photography and recipe development (her ‘claim to fame’ is the preparation of a roast turkey with all the trimmings which was used in a poster for a major supermarket!) Jane married and went on to become a full-time mum. She to work part-time when her children started school, and during this time has gathered many years of varied experiences working, among other things, in retail, customer services, banking, as a mortgage advisor and as student support administrator at a local school. Jane will be on the other end of the phone to help with any of your enquires or pass them on to whichever member of our team can help. Her particular responsibilities lie with governor support…. and gathering your news (as you will read later!). In this issue Director’s Jottings What’s On?
