title="Photo: Keith Happell, Ely Week..."
alt="Photo: Keith Happell, Ely Weekly News Our special schools service to mark the 900 years of the Diocese of Ely was a great success on Sunday when over four hundred children, school staff, governors and friends joined together to the work of our schools. We were inspired by The Bishop of Huntingdon who challenged each of us to use our talents to the full and then commissioned everyone present to continue with their important work in education. Every school was proud to process its banner and bring a “Values Box” to exchange with another school. The idea was for each school to get to know another school through opening the box at their next act of collective worship and we have already heard from several schools who have told us how interesting this was and how it made their children much more aware of their diocesan church school family. Among the messages we have received afterwards, one parent wrote, “I just wanted to say how much we had enjoyed the garden party and service on Sunday. The atmosphere in the garden was lovely - lots of friendly chat, plenty for the children to do, and delicious food. I met up with a number of old friends and met some interesting people I didn't know. The service was a great celebration. The musical contribution the children made was wonderful, and the sight of Bishop David leading all the children off down the aisle was a sight to behold. My son was very proud to carry his school banner. It was great to have contributions from schools all over the diocese, and from such a mixture of settings. (Our son) went back to school yesterday very keen to tell his friends all about it.” Schools Bulletin 25th June 2009 Issue 44 The Schools Bulletin is published fortnightly in term.
